The Sportsmen’s Alliance is a dedicated organization that has been actively defending the rights of hunters, fishermen, and trappers for over four decades. It all began in the mid-1970s when a group of business leaders recognized the increasing threats to outdoor heritage and decided to unite sportsmen to protect these traditions. Initially formed as a response to an Ohio trapping issue with national implications, the organization evolved into what we know today as the Sportsmen’s Alliance and the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation.
Throughout its history, the Sportsmen’s Alliance has tirelessly fought to safeguard and promote outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, trapping, and shooting. They have actively engaged in all 50 state legislatures, the courts, Congress, and even the ballot box to protect these cherished traditions. Over the years, they have successfully defended sportsmen’s rights from various threats, including legislative challenges and anti-hunting initiatives.
Additionally, the Sportsmen’s Alliance is committed to introducing the next generation to outdoor sports. They have implemented programs like the Trailblazer Adventure Program and Families Afield to engage youth and families in outdoor activities, ensuring that the tradition continues. The organization has also taken a stand against attacks on the sporting dog community, with the Dog Wars campaign aimed at protecting sporting dog owners from anti-hunting efforts.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance is dedicated to preserving and advancing the rich heritage of outdoor sports, and they firmly support the Second Amendment as a cornerstone of hunting and sportsmanship. They believe that the rights of law-abiding citizens should not be infringed upon due to the actions of criminals and work tirelessly to protect these rights for sportsmen and women across the country.
